September’s AIM Spotlight shines on Tonya Philbrick, Maine’s immunization program manager. She has been in that position since 2012. Prior to that, she was the vaccine manager for 5 years but she has been on the Maine Immunization Program staff since 1999. When asked what she likes about her job, Tonya says it’s the impact she can have on all aspects of the program, seeing the big picture and knowing the program is making a difference every day in the lives of the people of Maine.

About AIM, Tonya says, “What I like is that AIM is a community and a safe place to discuss difficult issues, utilizing one another to share resources and knowing you’re not alone.”

When not managing the immunization program, Tonya enjoys all four seasons in Maine. An avid gardener, she and her family are able to have vegetables from their garden year-round. In the spring, the soil is prepared and seeds planted. Summer fun includes boating and working the garden – she admits to enjoying her garden barefooted and without gloves. And in the fall, she enjoys the lovely Maine foliage and harvesting root vegetables. “I’m a country girl!” she proudly reveals. In the winter she prefers rides on her very own snowmobile. Tonya enjoys family time by participating in a long-time family tradition of hand-churning ice cream on Christmas and spending time at the family log cabin on Moosehead Lake.

She and husband Todd spend as much time as possible with their son, Justin and his family and special time with her Dad. Tonya appreciates the vast beauty of Maine and says, “My favorite thing is a snowflake!”
