Oregon State University requires students to get more immunizations

Oregon State University officials are asking students to show up fully immunized for spring term. Besides the standard measles, mumps and rubella shots, the university is adding varicella (chickenpox), Tdap (tetanus-diphtheria-pertussis) and hepatitis B to the required list.

“When I speak to parents, I say that anything we can do to protect a student from an infectious disease will help keep them in school,” Jenny Haubenreiser, executive director of OSU Student Health Services, said in a news release. “Catching pertussis, for example, could knock a student out for several weeks and reduce their ability to complete that term of school.
