I am happy to report that we have reached a few more milestones in AIM’s strategic growth!

On Thursday October 23, we held our first AIM General Membership call for the Pacific Islands. For so many years, the Pacific Islanders have not been able to participate in the AIM General Membership calls because of the time differences and challenges with toll-free numbers. Thanks to a persistent Beth Rowe-West and Ron Balajadia, AIM was able to acquire an international operator-assisted call line last Thursday at 7:30pmET. Several Executive Committee members, CDC staff and AIM staff participated on the call with Annette Aguon and Michele Guerrero from Guam, Jeremy Sasamoto from the Northern Mariana Islands and Yolanda Masunu-Faleafaga from American Samoa. It was a great conversation! We still have some challenges to work through in order to get the other islands on the call, but we are making progress! It’s so exciting to connect with our international members! We will continue holding evening re-cap calls of every General Membership call in the future. Feel free to join!

We also took the first step toward establishing a truly independent organization by raising AIM dues enough to support independent, full-time staff. Our plan is to have staff supporting the AIM organization and its strategic goals in addition to staff supporting the cooperative agreement activities with CDC. The dues increase proposal passed 38-5 and has been implemented. You will be receiving an invoice for 2015 dues soon, if you haven’t received one already. Please make every effort to pay your dues; go to the website for more information or call us if you need help or a waiver. Dues payment does not impact AIM membership and participation benefits, so we still need the participation of all 64 awardees. The strength of the AIM organization rests on its members!
