The AIM Leadership Institute promotes effective immunization program management through collaboration, education, and creativity to ensure program compliance and increase and sustain high immunization coverage throughout the lifespan.

Leadership Development training resources were developed from in-person leadership training. Each course below includes several short modules that review program content.

What Effective Leaders Do: Setting Direction and Creating Culture

In this session, you will be introduced to leadership theories and leadership behaviors (task and roles) and provided with a practical framework for thinking about and improving leadership skills. The session will focus on the key elements of what effective leaders do – set direction and create culture and will provide insights, tools, and principles for these leadership activities.

You will understand the nature, tasks, and roles of leadership and appreciate the differences between leadership and management and how they work together.

Leading a Multi-Generational Workforce

This session is highly interactive and includes skill building and productivity. It is a results-oriented session designed to help managers get in the game and be productive. Participants will have opportunities for small and large group interaction, independent reflection and application to work.

Participants will 1) understand the forces that shape generational preferences, attitudes and behaviors at work and 2) be able to identify the key motivators for each generation and learn to improve communication skills critical to bridging the generation gap.

Effective Leadership for Community Health Equity

Content: This session consists of instructive presentation, facilitated audience participation and small group exercises. Small group exercises will address personal leadership reflection and journaling, creating the environment for building shared aspirational goals among persons, organizations and sectors. The session also includes methods to provide feedback that builds trust and engagement. The exercise focuses on discerning transactional vs adaptive leadership opportunities/challenges.

Objectives: The participant will have a better understanding of 1) the distinction between “management” and “leadership” as a foundation for further leadership development; 2) the importance of naming and planning for the underlying forces that create events, organizational performance and community-level trends, i.e., transactional vs. adaptive leadership; 3) insight into and a frame of competencies around personal, organizational and leadership.

Part 3 looks closely at the profile of Stage 1 in dealing with change. This profile includes feelings of fear and self-protection. The presentation consists of personal perspectives and the perspective as a manager and leader when moving yourself and others through change.

Understanding The Change Cycle Model Part 4

Part 4 concludes the discussion of stage 1 with an action plan of change and begins the discussion of stage 2 with profiles of doubt and resistance. Phil explains the thoughts, feelings, and behaviors and provides examples of successful communication strategies during this stage. In addition, stage 3 is introduced with profiles of discomfort and the need to accept the steps necessary to move forward.

Part 5 addresses the importance of identifying the specific steps needed to move forward in stage 3 of the change cycle and determining who can help during this process.

Part 6 discusses the fourth, fifth, and sixth stages in the Change Cycle. The fourth stage is one of discovery, in which one determines what decisions must be made to move forward. The fifth stage is about understanding and involves feelings of enthusiasm, confidence, and determination. In this stage, the change process nears completion, so it is essential to evaluate the process and learn how to meet the next challenge of change. And the sixth and final stage of the change cycle addresses integration and the importance of gaining new knowledge through re-evaluation and re-prioritization.
